Study abroad with IELTS Academic
Reach the band score your university asks for. Prepare in person at our school in Algiers, or online on our platform. Here is what the test is, when to take it and how to register in Algeria.
What is IELTS Academic?
IELTS Academic is the English test for people who want to study at university level, or work in a profession that requires registration, in an English-speaking country.
It checks the four skills you need in a classroom: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Your result is a band score from 1 to 9, in whole or half bands, for each skill and overall.
Why take it
It proves your level
Universities use an English test to check that you can follow lessons and write assignments in English.
Your university sets the score
Each university and each programme asks for its own band score. Check it first: it becomes your target.
One result, four skills
You get a score for each skill. It shows exactly where to work before the exam.
When should you take it?
Start from your deadline
Find the application deadline and the required band score of your university. Count backwards from there.
Mind the two-year validity
An IELTS result is usually accepted for two years. If you test too early, it may expire before you apply.
Leave room for a second try
Results on computer usually arrive within a few days, so you can retake the test if you miss your target. Dates depend on availability: book early.
Prepare before you book
Take a full mock test on the platform first. When your practice scores are close to your target, you are ready to book.
The test, section by section
In Algeria, the British Council has offered all IELTS tests on computer since 30 April 2026. The format, the questions and the scoring are the same as on paper.
How to register for the official test in Algeria
The Nest is not a test centre. You register and pay with the British Council, which runs the official IELTS test centres in Algeria.
